The Things We Take For Granted: How to get through the lows of life

Sometimes we must be reminded of the little things we take for granted. Each day presents us with goodness and the gift of life. When life knocks you down, take consistent action to get back up. You will live happier when you appreciate the little things and tiny details. How do we appreciate life and not take it for granted? The first thing you have to do is own up to the life you have now and find the goodness around you every day. Don’t fall into the gloom of life. Life is precious and should not be taken for granted.

How do we live and not fall into the gloom of life?

Sometimes you must surrender to the universe’s fate conspiring in your favor. When it rains, it pours, and you might feel overwhelmed. At that moment, own up to where you are now. Accept it and keep your feet firm. Believe that it is a phase that will pass because it will. Confusion is often an accomplice of low times, but you don’t have to be confused; these three guides help you get your feet back up.

1 You are where you are, don’t take it for granted.

Living in delusion, focusing on the “what if” and the “if only” is easier when you are down. You might even be hoping this isn’t real, and maybe you will one day wake up, and it will all be gone. It will be difficult for you to get out of the new low if you don’t even acknowledge it. There is need for you to have difficult conversation with yourself and brainstorm on the way through. When there is a will, then there will be a way. Own up to where you are and decide where you want to be.

2 Be in charge of the things you can change.

No matter how bad and how low it gets, there are always little things you can take control of, no matter how insignificant. Let go of the things you cannot control. See where you want to go in life and focus on the path to getting there. Don’t take for granted your ability to activate yourself, learn skills, take the small steps to achieve micro-goals, and get to the next phase in life. Leverage those things and use them to work your way back up.

3 Own up to it and stop wallowing in self-pity.

The low times affect confidence. You might even lose all sense of self-belief. Even then, you must embrace yourself and not dwell in self-pity. Once you own up to where you are currently and build your plan for where you want to go, let go of the doubts holding you back. With each micro-goal accomplished, you will gain confidence. Each small win is a significant accomplishment that should not be taken for granted.

Don’t take for granted the path you are on.

Don’t remain still and stare at your lowest point. Own up to your life. Lift your head, and move forward with modest, deliberate steps in the direction you know you must go. It could be challenging, but it will be the difference-maker. It’s also crucial to remember that sometimes you must accept the negative and the positive. Make an effort to appreciate the difficult circumstances since they can lead to so much personal development.
